St. Goar (Germany)
St. Goar Germany is the kind of town Disney princesses settle down in when they want to have kids. It's a small town in the Rhine Valley, with just a few shops and a lot of tulips. After several days in London and Amsterdam, it was so lovely when the sound of a river and chirping birds replaced traffic and the thump! thump! thump! of club music. I spent just the night there. I woke up to take pictures of the sunrise, and it was gorgeous. Right at the edge of the river, I thought I could get a perfect shot if I could just get a little... bit...closer. And that's when I fell in into the Rhine River.
Here are two things books do not tell you about the Rhine River:
1) It is frigid.
2) It moves rather quickly.
Munich tomorrow.
Comments
I have a new town to visit next time I pull out the passport. I will be wary of the river's apparent insatiable desire to pull unsuspecting tourists into its depths.

There are many pieces of advice that I might give my granddaughters (were it not for the fact tht I simply do not give unrequested advice)when they travel - don't forget your coat - don't lay your purse down - don't touch anything in the bathroom) but never in a million years would I have said "Heather, don't fall in a river." In fact, I am pretty sure rivers are way down the list in "101 Things for Parents to Worry About".

I so very much love that a fraction of "internet time use" somehow embedded itself into your post title.

THANK YOU, Abigail, I was wondering what that was. I thought maybe it was some crazy German phrase or something. I'm not very smart.

I hope you weren't wearing your new shoes when you fell in the river!

Stay dry, friend. Unless of course the water is hot tub temperature, in which case I say: fall in!

Sorry. I fixed that Internet time thing. What's worse: I was trying to upload a picture to Flickr in German, and I set it a picture of myself as the wallpaper of the hotel computer. Yesterday was something, I'm tellin' ya.

my mom used to make me wear those bright orange swimmies around any size/depth/body of water (similar idea to the helmet while roller skating story). if you think you need them to swim in the rhine, let me know...and i'll mail them to you.
also, yay! tulips!

I love these travel log posts. it's like I'm there with you...Except these beige cubicle walls mocking me and telling me differently.
